George W. Bush recently published a Book of memoirs about his Presidency called 'Decision Points'. In it he says that one of the lowest points in his reign came as a result of Kanye West's outburst ("George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People") during a live telethon to raise funds for victims of the devastating Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
So there I am watching the ex President being interviewed on the news and I notice that my brethren Justin has forwarded me a tune called 'Looking For Trouble' performed by Kanye West, Pusha T, Cyhi the Prynce, Big Sean & J. Cole. So why would this Hip Hop cypha tune pique the interest of a confirmed Reggaemuffin like myself?
The reason is that the tune was recorded on a sample from a Steel Pulse record called ' Blues Dance Raid'. The sheer serendipity of it all!!!!! We now know that if George Bush has his way, Kanye won't be on any Christmas list he's on much less get any invites to the White House. But for the Reggae ensemble there is no such concern.
George Bush's predecessor, Bill Clinton, invited Steel Pulse to perform at his Inauguration in 1993. As some opined at the time – "Rasta Gone Ah White House!"
Mr Clinton who some had called America's first Black President obviously had an affinity with the Rastafarian Birmingham band. When asked if he smoked marijuana as a student he replied "When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn't like it. I didn't inhale and never tried it again."
Talking of World leaders smoking, The Deejay legend, Daddy U Roy fantasized about smoking a chalice in Buckingham Palace with Queen Elizabeth II. The inspiration for this U Roy classic was the fact that Daddy U Roy was voicing on the Techniques' classic, 'Queen Majesty'.
And that is how you get George Bush to Lick A Chalice In The Palace with Bill Clinton, Kanye West & The Queen
